Europe did not ban Pristiq; rather, the European Medicines Agency (EMA) did not approve it for marketing. The EMA raised concerns about the clinical benefit-risk balance of Pristiq, particularly in comparison to existing antidepressants, and requested additional data, which the manufacturer did not provide at the time. As a result, Pristiq was never marketed in Europe, but it is not banned.
