Durolane is administered by a qualified healthcare professional as an intra-articular injection directly into the affected joint. It should not be self-injected.
For knee osteoarthritis, the usual treatment is one 3 mL injection into the affected knee. Before injection, the clinician may remove excess joint fluid and will use sterile technique. For the hip or smaller joints, the volume and injection technique may differ, and imaging guidance may be used to ensure accurate placement.
After the injection, patients are generally advised to avoid strenuous activity, prolonged standing, running, or heavy lifting for about 48 hours. Temporary pain, stiffness, warmth, or swelling around the joint can occur. Contact a healthcare provider promptly if swelling or pain is severe, worsening, or accompanied by fever or redness.
