Atenolol is not necessarily "no longer used," but its use has declined due to several factors. It is less preferred compared to other beta-blockers and antihypertensives because of its limited ability to penetrate the central nervous system, which may result in less effective blood pressure control. Additionally, newer medications have been developed that offer better cardiovascular protection and fewer side effects.
