Maxalt, known generically as rizatriptan, is a medication used to treat migraine headaches. It works by narrowing blood vessels around the brain and reducing substances in the body that trigger headache pain, nausea, sensitivity to light and sound, and other migraine symptoms. Maxalt is effective in relieving migraine attacks but is not used for preventing them or reducing their frequency.
