Paromomycin is an antibiotic used primarily to treat certain parasitic infections. It is commonly prescribed for intestinal infections caused by amoebas, such as amoebic dysentery, and is also used to treat leishmaniasis, a disease caused by protozoan parasites. Additionally, paromomycin is sometimes used to manage hepatic encephalopathy by reducing ammonia-producing bacteria in the gut.
