Repatha, or evolocumab, is a medication used to lower low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C), often referred to as "bad" cholesterol, in the blood. It is typically prescribed for individuals with certain cardiovascular conditions, including those with atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease or familial hypercholesterolemia, who require additional LDL-C reduction despite taking maximally tolerated statin therapy. Repatha works by inhibiting a protein called PCSK9, which enhances the liver's ability to remove LDL-C from the bloodstream.
