The levonorgestrel-releasing intrauterine system (IUS) Kyleena is a type of long-acting reversible contraceptive device. It is a small, T-shaped plastic device that is placed in the uterus and releases a low dose of the hormone levonorgestrel over a period of up to five years to prevent pregnancy. Kyleena works primarily by thickening cervical mucus to prevent sperm from reaching the egg and may also inhibit ovulation in some women.
