Long-term use of Forteo (teriparatide) may increase the risk of osteosarcoma, a rare type of bone cancer, although this has mainly been seen in animal studies. Other potential long-term effects include hypercalcemia (high blood calcium levels), increased risk of kidney stones, and possible bone pain. Forteo is generally prescribed for a maximum of two years to minimize these risks.
