ACTEMRA (tocilizumab) can start improving symptoms within a few weeks, although it may take several months to reach its full effect. The American College of Rheumatology notes that some patients notice improvement after the first few weeks of treatment.
For conditions such as rheumatoid arthritis, improvements may include less joint pain, swelling, and morning stiffness. How quickly it works varies depending on the condition being treated, disease severity, and whether ACTEMRA is being used alone or with another medication.
If there has been little or no improvement after a few months, the prescribing specialist will usually reassess whether the treatment is working adequately. Do not stop ACTEMRA without discussing it with your healthcare provider.
