Paliperidone can make people feel different depending on the dose and how they respond to it. It is an atypical antipsychotic used for schizophrenia and schizoaffective disorder, and when it is working well, a person may feel calmer, less suspicious or distressed, and have fewer hallucinations or disorganized thoughts.
Some people may also feel sleepy, tired, dizzy, slowed down, or less mentally alert. Others can develop restlessness or an uncomfortable need to keep moving (akathisia), stiffness, tremor, or other movement-related effects.
Paliperidone can also cause dizziness when standing up, so getting up slowly can help. Because it may affect alertness and coordination, it's a good idea to see how it affects you before driving or operating machinery.
If paliperidone is making you feel extremely restless, unusually stiff, very sleepy, faint, or emotionally very different, contact your healthcare provider; the dose or treatment may need to be reviewed.
