Valbenazine does not directly increase dopamine levels. Instead, it works by inhibiting the vesicular monoamine transporter 2 (VMAT2), which reduces the release of dopamine into synapses. This helps to decrease excessive dopamine activity associated with conditions like tardive dyskinesia.
