Doctors are no longer recommending Benadryl (diphenhydramine) because it can cause significant side effects like drowsiness, confusion, and dry mouth, especially in children and older adults. Newer antihistamines, such as cetirizine or loratadine, are safer and less sedating for treating allergies.
