Serevent (salmeterol) was not universally discontinued but its use has been restricted or cautioned due to safety concerns. Studies showed that using Serevent alone, without an inhaled corticosteroid, could increase the risk of severe asthma attacks and asthma-related deaths. As a result, guidelines now recommend using Serevent only in combination with a corticosteroid for asthma treatment.
