The main things to avoid while taking Braftovi (encorafenib) are:
- Grapefruit and grapefruit juice—they can raise Braftovi levels and increase side effects. Braftovi may otherwise be taken with or without food.
- Starting or stopping medicines, vitamins, or herbal supplements without your oncology team’s approval.Braftovi interacts with strong or moderate CYP3A4 inhibitors, strong CYP3A4 inducers, and medications that prolong the heart’s QT interval.
- Hormonal birth control alone. Braftovi may make pills, injections, patches, and other hormonal methods less effective. Use effective nonhormonal contraception during treatment and for two weeks after your last dose. Avoid pregnancy during this period.
- Breastfeeding during treatment and for two weeks after the final dose.
- Changing the dose or stopping Braftovi—or its partner treatment—on your own. Your Braftovi dose may need adjustment if binimetinib or cetuximab is stopped.
- Doubling doses. Do not take a missed dose when your next dose is less than 12 hours away, and do not take an extra dose if you vomit after taking it.
Have your oncologist or oncology pharmacist review your complete medication and supplement list, including nonprescription products. Seek prompt medical advice for fainting, an irregular or racing heartbeat, major vision changes, unusual bleeding, or black stools.
