E.E.S. stands for erythromycin ethylsuccinate. It is an oral form of erythromycin, a macrolide antibiotic that stops susceptible bacteria from growing. It is used for certain bacterial infections involving areas such as the ears, throat, lungs, skin and respiratory tract; it does not treat colds, flu or other viral infections.
E.E.S. commonly comes as a pediatric liquid suspension, including 200 mg/5 mL and 400 mg/5 mL strengths. For a baby, the dose must be prescribed according to weight and infection type—these concentrations are not interchangeable volume-for-volume.
