Sevelamer should be taken with food—during a meal, ideally with the first few bites. It works by binding phosphate from the food you eat, so it should not generally be taken on an empty stomach before or long after eating.
Follow the meal-by-meal dose prescribed by your kidney specialist or pharmacist.
