TIVICAY (dolutegravir) is a prescription antiretroviral medication used to treat HIV-1 infection. It is generally used with other HIV medicines as part of an antiretroviral treatment regimen.
TIVICAY belongs to a class of medicines called integrase strand transfer inhibitors (INSTIs). It blocks the HIV enzyme integrase, which the virus needs to make new copies of itself. This helps lower the amount of HIV in the blood (viral load) and allows the immune system to function better.
It may be prescribed for people who are starting HIV treatment as well as certain people who have previously taken HIV medicines. In adults who meet specific requirements, TIVICAY can also be combined with rilpivirine as a complete HIV treatment regimen when replacing an existing stable regimen.
TIVICAY does not cure HIV or AIDS, but effective ongoing treatment can keep HIV suppressed and reduce the risk of HIV-related complications.
