For nifedipine ER, either morning or evening can work, but morning is often the simplest choice. The key is to take it once daily at about the same time each day. Extended-release nifedipine is designed to provide blood-pressure control throughout the 24-hour dosing interval.
If your product is Adalat CC, the prescribing information says to take it once daily on an empty stomach and swallow the tablet whole. It does not require a specific morning or nighttime dose.
So, unless your prescriber told you otherwise, a practical schedule would be every morning before breakfast. If nifedipine makes you noticeably dizzy or lightheaded, ask your prescriber or pharmacist before switching it to nighttime, especially if you take other blood-pressure medications.
