Xeljanz XR (tofacitinib extended-release) can be taken at any time of day, so there isn’t a medically required “best” time. The important thing is to take it once daily at about the same time each day. Pfizer states that Xeljanz XR can be taken with or without food.
For most people, morning is a convenient choice because it’s easier to build into a daily routine, but evening is also fine if that works better for you. Swallow the XR tablet whole and intact—do not crush, split, or chew it, since it is designed to release medication gradually throughout the day.
If Xeljanz XR bothers your stomach, taking it with a meal may be more comfortable, even though food is not required.
