NINLARO (ixazomib) is a targeted cancer therapy, not immunotherapy. It belongs to a class of drugs called proteasome inhibitors and is often grouped broadly with chemotherapy/antineoplastic treatments, although it is not traditional cytotoxic chemotherapy.
NINLARO works by blocking proteasomes, which cancer cells use to break down proteins. This causes proteins to build up inside multiple myeloma cells, leading to their death.
