Norprolac is the brand name for quinagolide, a prescription medicine used to lower high prolactin levels (hyperprolactinemia). It is a dopamine D2-receptor agonist, meaning it reduces the amount of prolactin released by the pituitary gland.
It may be prescribed when high prolactin is unexplained or caused by a prolactinoma, a prolactin-secreting pituitary tumor. Norprolac is typically taken once daily, with the dose gradually increased to reduce side effects such as nausea, dizziness, and low blood pressure when standing.
It works similarly to cabergoline (Dostinex) and bromocriptine (Parlodel), although quinagolide is a non-ergot dopamine agonist.
