Tukysa (tucatinib) can remain effective for months or even years, depending on the type of cancer, how well the cancer responds to treatment, and the other medications used with it.
Tukysa is typically taken twice daily, approximately 12 hours apart, and continued for as long as it controls the cancer without causing unacceptable side effects.
In clinical studies:
-
HER2-positive metastatic breast cancer: Patients receiving Tukysa with trastuzumab and capecitabine experienced a median progression-free survival of approximately 7.8 months.
-
HER2-positive breast cancer maintenance treatment: Patients receiving Tukysa with trastuzumab and pertuzumab experienced a median progression-free survival of 24.9 months.
These figures represent clinical trial averages, not a prediction of how long Tukysa will work for an individual. Doctors monitor treatment effectiveness through imaging, clinical assessments, and laboratory tests to determine whether treatment should continue.
